This Ukraine war update for November 5, 2026, covers the overnight 128-drone and Kh-35 barrage, the Komyshuvakha aid-center toll rising to 42, emergency power cuts in Kyiv, and Erdogan’s call for a Putin talk after his Zelenskyy meeting.[1][2][3] It follows yesterday’s Ukraine war update; the War Room lists every theater. Overnight Barrage and Local Damage
Ukraine’s Air Force said that from 18:00 on November 4 Russia fired two Kh-35 guided missiles from the Black Sea and a package of Shahed-type (65 jet-powered), Gerbera and Parodiya decoy UAVs launched from Russia and occupied Crimea and Donetsk.[33] As of 08:00 on November 5, air defenses had shot down or suppressed 105 of 128 drones in that package, including 48 jet-powered ones; several drones remained airborne and combat continued.[34][35]
Hits were recorded at 18 locations and debris at nine. In Kyiv Oblast a commercial warehouse near Bucha caught fire. In Dnipropetrovsk Oblast drones struck Dnipro, wounding at least three people and setting fires at a dwelling, garages and critical energy sites; Samar was also hit.[36] Vinnytsia Oblast reported three injured and damage to critical infrastructure.[37]
Komyshuvakha Toll and Police Deaths
The death toll from Monday’s Russian strike on a school used as an aid center in Komyshuvakha rose to 42 as more bodies were recovered from the rubble, Ukrainska Pravda reported, with about 33 people still listed as possibly trapped.[38] Separately, Ukrainska Pravda reported that two police officers injured in a drone attack near Komyshuvakha on November 1 died in hospital.[39]
Power Cuts and Energy Pressure
DTEK said emergency power cuts were introduced in Kyiv’s Podilskyi, Shevchenkivskyi and Sviatoshynskyi districts after a Russian attack; scheduled cut timetables remained in force in other districts.[40] The overnight package’s hits on energy sites in Dnipropetrovsk Oblast add to winter grid strain already documented in earlier War Room editions.
Diplomacy: Erdogan, Abu Dhabi, EU Cash
Erdogan told reporters he wants to speak with Putin after Saturday’s meeting with Zelenskyy and that Türkiye will keep working to end the war.[41][42] U.S. envoy Steve Witkoff’s earlier announcement of working-level talks in Abu Dhabi on November 10–11 still frames the next mediation window.[43] In Brussels-facing finance, Koretskyi said Ukraine had received €4.36 billion more from the EU Ukraine Support Loan after reforms.[44]
Oil, Tankers and Refinery Claims
Ukrainska Pravda, citing Defence Intelligence of Ukraine, reported Thursday that as of late September 2026 Ukrainian strikes had left 15 of 38 main Russian oil refineries inoperable and cut output at 12 more, with refining volumes down 55.4% year-to-date.[45] Separately, the Financial Times, via UP, said two sanctioned diesel tankers that had been bound for the United States — the Talisman and the Leruo — changed course away from the U.S. Atlantic Coast.[46]
Domestic Affairs
Zelenskyy’s office dismissed two senior SBU officials amid the Operation Carthage investigation into a criminal network accused of selling exemptions from military service.[47] The move keeps wartime anti-corruption enforcement in public view as Ukraine negotiates reconstruction support in Brussels.
War Crimes and Civilian Harm
Allegations are attributed; findings are not established unless stated.
Opened sources for this window document civilian deaths and injuries from strikes on an aid center, police officers, Vinnytsia Oblast and Dnipro, and a Russian-installed claim of vehicle-attack deaths in Luhansk.[48][49][50][51][52] This section records attributed claims only; it does not reach legal conclusions.

Related War Room Reports
Geography & Strategic Position
Russian drones and missiles struck from Black Sea launch points and bases in Oryol, Kursk, Millerovo, Primorsko-Akhtarsk, occupied Donetsk and Crimea, with hits logged at 18 locations and debris at nine more.[4][5] Search teams kept working the school rubble in Komyshuvakha, Zaporizhzhia Oblast, while Vinnytsia Oblast and Dnipro also reported damage.[6][7]
Military & Security
Ukraine’s overnight air-defense fight and local damage are detailed in the Munitions Count and Overnight Barrage sections below.[8] On the occupied side of the line, Russian-installed Luhansk governor Leonid Pasechnik claimed seven people were killed and 14 hurt in vehicle attacks, without naming an attacker Ukraine confirmed.[9]
Alliances & Diplomatic Networks
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said he wants a conversation with Vladimir Putin after meeting Volodymyr Zelenskyy in Ankara on Saturday, and that Türkiye will keep pressing for an end to the war.[10][11] Working-level U.S.-mediated talks in Abu Dhabi remain set for November 10–11.[12]
Economic & Industrial Power
Ukraine received a further €4.36 billion from the European Union under the Ukraine Support Loan after adopting reforms — €3.7 billion in macro-financial aid and €660 million for defense — according to Prime Minister Serhii Koretskyi.[13] Separate Ukrainian intelligence figures on Russian refining capacity appear in the Oil, Tankers and Refinery Claims section.[14]
Technology & Critical Infrastructure
DTEK introduced emergency power cuts in Kyiv’s Podilskyi, Shevchenkivskyi and Sviatoshynskyi districts after a Russian attack, while scheduled cuts continued elsewhere in the capital.[15] Overnight drones sparked a warehouse fire near Bucha and hit energy sites in Dnipropetrovsk Oblast.[16]
Domestic Politics & Information
President Zelenskyy’s office dismissed two senior Security Service of Ukraine officials tied to the “Operation Carthage” probe of a criminal network that investigators say sold exemptions from military service.[17] The dismissals keep anti-corruption pressure on wartime institutions as Brussels reconstruction talks continue.
Strategic Leverage & Outcomes
Russia’s smaller overnight package still scored hits at 18 sites while Kyiv rationed power, and Ankara’s bid for a Putin call sits ahead of the Abu Dhabi working talks.[18][19] U.S. interests turn on whether those talks and EU cash keep Ukraine solvent through winter without locking Washington into a premature ceasefire.
