Overview
Information War is the War Room’s seventh theater. It tracks organized influence operations, AI-generated fakes and the fact-checks that answer them. The first daily report, published October 10, 2026, covers OpenAI’s October 8 disclosure that it disrupted one Russia-attributed and one Iranian AI-enabled operation; a warning from a Chinese military-affiliated outlet to a Taiwanese television host; a US joint advisory and a Justice Department seizure of two domains tied to a China-based firm; and fact-checks of recycled war footage. Each report attributes claims to the party that made them, tags facts as confirmed, reported or assessed, and includes a War Crimes and Civilian Harm section and statements by officials with US statements first. Latest Information War coverage
The newest Information War Update and other posts on influence operations, newest first. Each daily update opens with Key Takeaways and ends with a six-lens analysis, and every sentence carries a numbered source footnote.
What we cover
State influence operations. Networks that public disclosures attribute to Russia, China, Iran and other state-linked actors, including company takedowns by OpenAI and government advisories. Attribution is reported as the discloser’s finding, not our own.
AI-made fakes and platform tools. Synthetic video, audio and personas, and how fact-checkers and platforms identify them.
Fact-checks of viral claims. Recycled footage and false posts about the wars we cover, labeled false, missing context or unverified, with the fact-checker’s source cited.
Countermeasures and law. Seizures of infrastructure, advisories, EU reviews and court rulings on election deepfakes.
How to read the daily update
Claims by a party to a conflict are attributed and tagged as reported. Facts, allegations and our own analysis are kept apart. False claims are named only to label them false and cite the debunk. Each report has a War Crimes and Civilian Harm section and a Statements by Officials section that lists United States statements first.
Who runs these operations
Influence operations are carried out by state organizations, and the agencies behind them are often named in advisories and indictments. Our sourced guide to the world’s top intelligence agencies explains the CIA, the KGB and its successors the FSB, SVR and GRU, China’s Ministry of State Security and PLA intelligence, and other major services, and how to read claims about them.
