In this November 6 Iran war news update, President Donald Trump spoke with Qatar’s emir about a comprehensive deal even as he warned Iran could face further destruction, Saudi-led air defenses said they downed a drone over Mecca and two ballistic missiles over Najran, and Israel’s president prepared to name who will try to form the next government (see yesterday’s Iran war update and the War Room).

Trump Speaks With Qatar’s Emir and Warns of Further Destruction

Qatar’s Emiri Diwan said Emir Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani and President Trump spoke by phone about strategic ties and about international efforts, including Doha’s mediation, to reach a comprehensive agreement that resolves the crisis with Iran[33]. The emir stressed sustained dialogue to prevent further escalation and the need to protect freedom of navigation and energy supplies; Qatar, with Pakistan, has mediated between Washington and Tehran since the US-Israeli war on Iran began in late February[34][35].

In separate Oval Office remarks to reporters the day before the Diwan readout, Trump framed a starker choice. He said the United States would decide whether to “go further and just certify it, by certifying it meaning it will never happen again,” adding: “I would rather not destroy the rest of the country, if possible, but maybe I’ll have to. And you’ll know soon enough”[36][37]. He said he thinks Iran will need about 25 years to rebuild after the war that began in February, and when asked about mediator nuclear proposals he said Tehran is “not doing anything without our approval”[38].

No comprehensive agreement was announced. The pairing of a mediation call with a public destruction warning left both the diplomatic channel and the escalation option on the table without clarifying which path Washington will take next[39].

Guards Claim Two More Drones Over Qeshm

Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps said in two statements that its Aerospace Force used advanced electronic warfare systems to disable two US MQM-170 reconnaissance drones over Qeshm Island in the Strait of Hormuz, bringing the Guards’ claimed MQM-170 total to six[40]. The statements gave no wreckage imagery, serial numbers or recovery details. No US military confirmation or denial of those specific downs appeared in the opened sources; war.gov carried no Iran strike item in the window, and Central Command’s news page returned an error on one attempt[41][42].

The claim followed Thursday’s Guards and navy accounts of tanker and tug fires and a mine strike in Hormuz, covered in yesterday’s update, which independent maritime agencies had not named vessel-by-vessel in the sources then checked[43].

Houthis: Mecca Drone, Najran Missiles and Arab Condemnations

Coalition spokesman Maj. Gen. Turki al-Maliki said a drone was intercepted and destroyed in the Mecca region and that air defenses earlier destroyed two ballistic missiles launched by the Houthis toward Najran province; he said debris fell after the missile intercepts and that damage was being assessed[44][45]. Saudi Civil Defense had issued a Najran warning before saying the danger had passed[46].

Qatar, Kuwait, Bahrain and Jordan condemned Thursday’s Houthi attempt to target the Medina region — the intercept covered in yesterday’s report — calling it a sovereignty violation and, in several statements, an affront to Muslim holy sites; the Houthis rejected claims that they targeted Medina[47][48]. Bahrain urged the UN Security Council to take firmer measures against repeated Houthi attacks on religious sites and civilians[49].

Yemen’s army spokesman Majed Abdullah al-Nuzaili said government forces carried out 1,298 operations with air, drone and artillery support, claiming about 440 Houthi fighters and commanders neutralized and 132 vehicles or heavy weapons destroyed or damaged, and that forces captured the Sanamat area in Taiz while mine clearance continued in Al-Jawf[50]. Those figures are Yemeni government claims and were not independently verified in the sources checked.

Israel: Sunday Mandate Decision and Lieberman’s Shift

Herzog said in a Thursday video message that parties representing 67 of 120 Knesset members recommended Yashar leader Gadi Eisenkot and parties holding 46 seats backed Netanyahu, but that mutual vetoes still make government formation uncertain[51][52]. He said he would hold further individual talks and announce on Sunday who will receive the mandate[53]. Yashar urged him to grant Eisenkot the mandate “as soon as possible,” calling Netanyahu a caretaker with no majority[54].

On Friday, Avigdor Lieberman said the change bloc must end the Netanyahu era, lifted his veto on ultra-Orthodox parties on issues including the conscription law, and insisted any 61-seat coalition must not rely on the Joint List or Ra’am abstaining[55][56]. Arab factions had not replied in the opened wires.

Diplomacy: Egypt-Saudi Call, Putin-Rezaei and the Mecca Pact

Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty and Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan spoke by phone and, according to Cairo’s Foreign Ministry, urged wisdom, dialogue and more time for negotiations while coordinating with partners including the United States and Qatar to prevent renewed military confrontations[57]. The statement did not name the exact negotiating text under discussion.

In Moscow, the Kremlin said Putin received Mohsen Rezaei, secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council; Ushakov and GRU chief Kostyukov also attended[58]. Iranian state media said Rezaei delivered a message from the supreme leader; the precise purpose was not disclosed in the Kremlin readout, following a Nov. 2 Putin-Rezaei phone call on West Asia[59][60]. Türkiye’s parliament approved the Mecca Joint Defense Agreement with Pakistan and Saudi Arabia by 279 votes to 119 after debate in which the ruling party said the pact aims to prevent conflicts rather than escalate them[61].

Southern Syria Raids and Gaza Ceasefire Friction

Local reports said the Israeli army fired two artillery shells onto farmland near Beit Jinn southwest of Damascus and separately raided Al-Hurriya village in the Quneitra countryside, a pattern of southern Syria operations also reported in October[62][63]. Detailed casualty figures for those specific Friday-window events were not established in the sources checked.

In Gaza, medical sources told Anadolu that Israeli drone and gunfire incidents killed four Palestinians and wounded 11 across the Strip on Thursday, with further deaths reported Friday, amid what Palestinian sources describe as continued violations of a ceasefire in effect since Oct. 10, 2025; these are attributed local and medical claims, not adjudicated findings[64][65].
