This information war update for October 30, 2026, covers the record theft from the Binance exchange that analysts tie to North Korea, a spying tool aimed at satellite and defense networks, a Pentagon leak case and new federal patch orders.[1] It follows the October 29 information war update; the War Room and the Information War News Hub give context.
Cyber Theft
Binance said hackers stole $6.3 billion in a Thursday evening attack that is likely the largest crypto theft in history, The Record reported.[2] Chainalysis said it had a “high degree of confidence that DPRK” was responsible, and TRM Labs attributed the theft to the North Korean group TraderTraitor.[3] No government has publicly confirmed that attribution in the window. Binance traced the breach to a DevOps engineer’s compromised laptop but said the attack “was not a single ‘one-click’ action” and that it had not blamed any individual.[4] Tether, Circle and other firms moved to freeze funds, but the attackers still held more than $2.4 billion in Ethereum and Bitcoin, The Record said.[5] The North Korea angle also appears in today’s China Taiwan report.
In a separate case, the Polymarket prediction market halted trading on October 29 after one of its third-party providers was compromised and said affected traders would be reimbursed.[6] Inside Russia, the home goods chain Poryadok said a cyberattack had closed some stores and its online services for five days; no group has claimed it.[7]
State-Linked Espionage
Cisco Talos said a newly identified group it tracks as UAT-11473 exploited a patched flaw in Cisco Catalyst SD-WAN controllers to install KeyDrift, a tool built to steal encryption keys, against space and satellite services, defense firms and policy research groups.[8] Talos said the group appears to overlap with infrastructure used by China’s Volt Typhoon but made no definitive link.[9] Today’s Space War report covers the satellite angle.
Leaks
Army Lt. Gen. Brett Sylvia, fired this week as the Joint Staff’s director of strategy, plans and policy, admitted leaking classified information about Iran and Ukraine to two reporters, according to an internal investigation report described by a US news site.[10] The Iran war update and the Ukraine war report cover what the leaks touched.
Iranian Media
Iranian newspapers are openly debating whether another war with the United States is coming, Iran International reported.[11] The economic daily Donya-ye Eghtesad said war was not inevitable, while a former diplomat writing in Shargh argued that Washington still had a diplomatic option.[12]
Cyber Front
CISA added two actively exploited flaws to its must-patch catalog on October 29: an integer overflow in GitLab that can let an unauthenticated user run code on the server, and a flaw in Cisco Secure Firewall ASA and FTD software.[13] Both carry a November 1 deadline for federal civilian agencies.[14]

- Whether Cisco or US agencies publish more on KeyDrift victims.[21]
Related War Room Reports
This analysis applies the Seven Lenses of Geopolitical Power to the day’s information fights.[22]
Geography & Strategic Position
The day’s cases ran from crypto platforms with global users to network controllers serving space firms, so borders offered little protection.[23]
Military & Security
A spying tool aimed at satellite and defense networks points to intelligence collection rather than disruption, based on Talos’s description of its key-stealing design.[24]
Alliances & Diplomatic Networks
The Hungary memorandum adds information exchange on law enforcement to a US partnership in Central Europe.[25]
Economic & Industrial Power
A theft of this size, if the attribution holds, would add billions to a sanctioned state’s funds.[26]
Technology & Critical Infrastructure
Both the Binance and Polymarket cases began with a single weak point: an engineer’s laptop and an outside web provider.[27][28]
Domestic Politics & Information
The leak case shows that the US government’s own staff remain a channel for sensitive war information reaching the press.[29]
