Tanzania: Lissu Cleared of Treason, Jailed for Incitement

South Africa: ANC Setback in Local Polls

With 99% of votes counted Sunday, the ANC had 31% nationally against 25% for the Democratic Alliance, a drop of roughly 14 points from 2021, leaving it weak in coalition talks, Al Jazeera reported, citing AFP and Reuters.[3]

Libya and Gambia

Egypt reopened its embassy in Tripoli, closed since 2012, as Cairo mends ties with the Tripoli government, Africanews reported.[4]

Gambian opposition leader Talib Ahmed Bensouda filed for next month’s presidential election despite a government report accusing him of financial improprieties; his party called it a political maneuver.[5]

DRC: Ebola and the Vaccine Gap

DW reported that the DRC’s current major outbreak is caused by the less common Bundibugyo strain, identified in 2007, for which there is still no licensed vaccine.[6]
