DNIPRO, Ukraine — More than 600,000 consumers in Dnipropetrovsk Oblast lost electricity after Russian attacks on the power system on the morning of Nov. 8, oblast head Oleksandr Hanzha said, Ukrainska Pravda reported.

The damage

Outages hit the Dnipro, Kamianske, Samar, Pavlohrad and Synelnykove districts. Energy company DTEK said critical facilities were damaged and that hospitals were switching to generators.

Emergency cuts

Grid operator Ukrenergo ordered emergency power cuts in Dnipro, Kyiv and other regions, including Kharkiv, Sumy and Poltava oblasts, DTEK said. Scheduled outage timetables do not apply during such cuts.

What to watch

Assessment: Repeated strikes on the grid before winter will test how quickly repair crews can restore supply.
