U.S. European Command has launched a “See Something, Do Something” campaign asking troops, family members and civilian employees to watch for suspicious behavior and to cover their digital tracks while in Europe, Defense News reported on Nov. 6, 2026.
What it asks
Personnel are urged to stay alert in crowded places such as transit hubs and report unusual behavior or unattended items to military police or local authorities, the report said. They are also told to review social-media privacy settings, turn off geotagging on fitness apps and devices, and avoid posting their locations and travels.
The announcement cites a recommendation to vary commuting routes, travel times and off-base activities “to reduce predictability.” Gen. Alexus Grynkewich, the command’s chief, called personnel and families “our most precious asset.”
The backdrop
European Command did not identify a specific threat behind the campaign, Defense News reported. It comes amid concern about drone incursions and hybrid activity below the threshold of war, which Defense News said has become more aggressive since Russia’s 2022 invasion of Ukraine.
What to watch
Assessment: Advice on routes and geotagging suggests concern about surveillance of personnel off base, not just attacks on installations. Any added restrictions on off-base movement would be a sign of a sharper threat picture.
