Israel Says It Hit 500-Plus Targets in Lebanon and Gaza
The IDF reports more than 370 Hezbollah sites in south Lebanon and over 140 Gaza targets struck in a month as ceasefire violations continue on both fronts.
JERUSALEM / BEIRUT — The Israeli military said on October 1 that its air force had struck Israel 500 targets claim: more than 500 targets across southern Lebanon and the Gaza Strip over the past month, including more than 370 Hezbollah-linked sites in Lebanon and more than 140 targets in Gaza, as operations continued on both fronts under fraying ceasefire arrangements.
According to an Israeli army statement amplified by Shafaq News and Iran International, the Gaza list included three Hamas brigade commanders, fighters accused of planning attacks or threatening Israeli troops, participants in the October 7, 2023 assault, individuals alleged to have held hostages, and weapons storage sites. The military did not provide a consolidated casualty figure for the month-long campaign.
Lebanon front stays hot
Lebanese media reported fresh airstrikes and explosions around Al-Mansouri south of Tyre and Majdal Zoun on Thursday, with machine-gun fire reported in Haddatha in Bint Jbeil district and overnight bombing near Zawtar Al-Sharqiyah and artillery around the Ali Al-Taher heights near Nabatieh. Lebanon’s Health Ministry has put the toll from Israeli attacks between March 2 and September 25 at 4,386 killed and 12,413 wounded, Shafaq reported—figures that frame the October 1 tally as a tempo update rather than a new war declaration.
The Lebanese track sits uneasily beside U.S. pressure on Beirut over Hezbollah disarmament, a theme Peter’s World covered on September 30 when Washington called Lebanese steps “not enough.” Israel’s month of dense targeting suggests operational reality is outrunning diplomatic sequencing along the Blue Line, even as Hezbollah periodically claims calibrated rocket and drone replies to what it calls Israeli ceasefire violations.
Gaza casualties under a year-old truce
In Gaza, the Health Ministry recorded eight deaths and 26 injuries over the previous 24 hours, Shafaq said, while Middle East Eye reported at least eight Palestinians killed on September 30, including five in a strike on a civilian transport vehicle in Tal al-Hawa. Palestinian authorities put deaths since the October 11, 2025 ceasefire at roughly 1,439, with overall war deaths since October 2023 above 74,000—statistics that Israel contests in methodology but that nonetheless define the humanitarian baseline for mediators.
The 500-target readout is a force-presentation choice: it aggregates Lebanon and Gaza into a single operational narrative of continuous threat removal. For outside powers pushing a longer Gaza truce and a Lebanon stabilization track, the number is a warning that Israeli airpower remains the default enforcement tool while political tracks lag. Whether that tempo hardens Hezbollah’s refusal to disarm or accelerates quiet Lebanese Army deployments south of the Litani will shape the next month as much as any single named strike.
Regional diplomacy remains fragmented. Egypt and Qatar continue to mediate on Gaza implementation details, while Lebanese officials warn that sustained Israeli strikes undercut any disarmament calendar tied to state monopoly on arms. The IDF’s month-long target count is therefore both a military ledger and a political message: operations will not pause for incomplete political tracks.
