This page explains what information Peter’s World (petersworld.org) collects when you visit the site, why, and the choices you have. It describes the tools this site actually runs. If we add or remove a tool, we will update this page.
Who we are
Peter’s World is an independent news and analysis website about warfare, geopolitics and world news, at https://petersworld.org. You can reach us through our Contact page.
Information you give us
- Contact form. If you use the form on our Contact page (Contact Form 7), we receive the details you enter, such as your name, email address and message, so we can reply. We use them only for that purpose.
- Comments. If you leave a comment, WordPress stores your name, email address, website (if given), comment text, IP address and browser user-agent. Your email address is not published. Comments may be checked by Akismet (see below). Your browser may also store cookies that remember your name and email for the next comment, if you choose that option.
- Gravatar. WordPress may send a hashed version of a commenter’s email address to the Gravatar service (Automattic) to show a profile picture if one exists.
- Morning Brief newsletter. If you subscribe to our email newsletter, we receive your email address through the Jetpack Subscribe form. It is stored by Jetpack and WordPress.com (Automattic), which sends the confirmation email and our newsletter emails. We use it only to send you the newsletter. You can unsubscribe at any time using the link in every email.
Information collected automatically
- Google Analytics. We use Google Analytics 4, loaded through the Site Kit by Google plugin, to count visits and see which articles are read. Google Analytics uses cookies and collects information such as pages viewed, approximate location, device and browser type, and referring site. Google’s privacy policy: policies.google.com/privacy.
- Advertising (Google AdSense). This site is set up to show ads from Google AdSense. Google and its partners may use cookies or similar technologies to show ads and measure them, including ads based on your visits to this and other sites. You can manage personalized advertising at adssettings.google.com. How Google uses information from sites that use its services: policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites.
- Jetpack. We use Jetpack (Automattic) for site statistics and to deliver images faster through its image CDN. Jetpack Stats records visits in aggregate form. Automattic’s privacy policy: automattic.com/privacy.
- Akismet. Comments and form submissions may be sent to Akismet (Automattic) to check for spam. Akismet receives the submitted content, IP address, user-agent and similar technical data.
- Server logs. Our web host (Bluehost) keeps standard server logs, such as IP address, date and time, and page requested, for security and operation of the site.
Cookies and your choices
When you first visit, a cookie banner (WPConsent) lets you accept or reject non-essential cookies, such as analytics and advertising cookies, and you can change your choice later. Our Cookie Policy lists the cookies in use. You can also block or delete cookies in your browser settings. Blocking some cookies may affect how the site works.
How long we keep information
Comments and their metadata are kept until they are removed. Contact messages are kept only as long as needed to handle your request. Analytics and advertising data are kept by Google and Automattic under their own retention settings.
Sharing
We do not sell your personal information. Information is shared only with the service providers named on this page, which process it to provide their services, or when required by law.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to ask for access to, correction of, or deletion of personal information we hold about you. To make a request, use our Contact page.
Children
This site is intended for a general adult audience and is not directed at children under 13.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy when the tools we use change. The date at the top shows the latest version.
